Hi. I have a studio at placed in Philadelphia called Space 1026. Every year we have an art auction to raise funds to support the gallery and keep the space open. Recently we have started having events leading up to the auction to keep the space active and to cross promote all the different things all of our resident artists are up to. This year I made the poster for the week of events.
The auction preview is Friday December 3rd and the big night, the auction itself, is Friday, December 10th at 1026 Arch Street, 2nd Floor, Philadelphia.
This October I went to Spain with my fellow faculty members from The University of the Arts Printmaking/Book Arts Department for an exhibition of our work. Our Spanish hosts are members of the collective “Portales de Artes” based in Lorca, in the Murcia region of Spain.
A week after we got back from Spain, the Spaniards came to Philadelphia for a showing of their works. I made this poster to advertise their exhibition and to (at least partly) return the hospitality they showed us while we were in Spain.
It’s a silkscreen, 5 layers, 16x20 inches.
This is my first repeat pattern. I really liked the process and plan on doing several more.
And this was my first attempt at Cheeseburger Cupcakes…the buns are yellow cakes, the burgers are brownies and the cheese, lettuce and tomatoes were made with vanilla icing and food-dye. In honor of Kay Healy’s birthday!
I live in Philadelphia, a city which, despite what you may have heard, still has some libraries. I frequent my local branch mostly for picture books.
I tend to read as many as I can by one author as the library can afford, hoping to get a sense of their work beyond what I may have read growing up.
This past week I got 13 picture books. I have decided to list them here:
The plant sitter by Gene Zion
I like to be little by Charlotte Zolotow
Something is going to happen by Charlotte Zolotow
Sleepy Book by Charlotte Zolotow
Say it! by Charlotte Zolotow
Harry, the dirt dog by Gene Zion
The tenth good thing about Barney by Judith Viorst
I’ll fix Anthony by Judith Viorst
Earrings by Judith Viorst
Trashy Town by Andrea Zimmerman
Alexander and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day by J. Viorst
Alexander who’s not (Do you hear me? I mean it!) moving by J. Viorst
